There are a number of informal settlements across South Africa named after the late Joe Slovo. Joe Slovo was born in Lithuana in 1926 and moved to South Africa at the age of 9. He graduated with a BA degree and a Bachelor of Law degree. He was an active member of the South African Communist Party and contributed to the drafting of the Freedom Charter. Slovo was the first minister of housing in a democratic South Africa he died on 6th January 1995. 

 

The Slovo Park that this website is about is approximately 7 Kilometers West of the Johannesburg CBD and is located between Crosby and Coronationville.
